What does it cost to run it?

Eight everyday appliances, a dated electricity price for Great Britain or your US state, and an answer printed like a receipt so you can check the working.

Why this electricity cost calculator is different

Most calculators ask for a wattage and a price you probably do not know. Plugslip starts with both filled in: the Ofgem price cap for Great Britain or the EIA average for the US and each state, with the date and the source, plus real appliance models whose energy figures come from ENERGY STAR, the EU energy label or the manufacturer. You can change any of it, and your own price always wins.

Where no official figure exists, we leave the box for you instead of guessing.

What is not included

Standing charges are never added, because you pay them whether the appliance is on or off. The result is an estimate of energy cost, not your bill.
