Household electricity prices, sourced and dated

What each figure is

Great Britain: the Ofgem energy price cap for 1 October to 31 December 2026, Direct Debit, single rate, 26.32p/kWh on average with a 54.83p daily standing charge. It is a maximum for standard variable tariffs, covers England, Scotland and Wales but not Northern Ireland, and contains no VAT because VAT on electricity is removed from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

United States: the EIA average residential price for July 2026, 18.31¢/kWh, from Electric Power Monthly Table 5.6.A. It is utility revenue divided by kWh sold, so it includes taxes and fees but is not anyone’s rate. Figures are preliminary and July is a high-use month.

Germany and Italy: Eurostat household prices for consumption band DC (2,500 to 4,999 kWh a year), all taxes and levies included. Germany is 2026 first half; Italy lags one semester and is 2025 second half.

Japan: the 31 yen/kWh reference price set by the national appliance fair-trade council on 22 July 2022, tax included, used on catalogue running-cost labels. TEPCO’s regulated tiers for the Tokyo area are listed too, with fuel-cost adjustment and the renewables levy not included.
